SEAWINDS

Durante los primeros años de ACCEPT, la responsabilidad de cantar las baladas recaía en el bajista Peter Baltes, quizás porque la voz de Udo no parecía cuadrar demasiado bien con este tipo de registro. A partir de "Breaker", Udo se anima y ya canta "Can't stand the night" (aunque en su primer álbum ya entonó una semi-balada como "Glad to be alone"). Estas son el origen de canciones como "Princess of the dawn" o "Winter dreams".

En este post, voy a poner una de esas pequeñas joyas cantadas por Peter Baltes, se trata de "Seawinds", del primer disco de Accept. La combinación de guitarras acústicas y eléctricas es una delicia, y los coros tan característicos de este disco irresistibles. Las melodías de las guitarras tampoco hay que perderlas de vista. La virtud de la sencillez.

Una balada cantada por mi heroína y genuína reina del rock: Doro Pesch junto con Udo, un cantante hipnótico para mí.

En su letra también se habla de un amor para siempre.

Can't Stop Lovin' You

No sé por qué esta canción me trae recuerdos de ese despertar adolescente a las emociones, de esas primeras experiencias vividas con intensidad única y apasionada;  de esos primeros amores marcados a fuego que dejamos atrás porque un caprichoso destino nos asigna distintos senderos en la vida.

Su letra habla de ese amor incondicional que lo vence todo: no importa dónde vayas, qué amigos tengas, que pase el tiempo, nunca dejaré de amarte... Uy, qué melancólica me he puesto, pero es que me encanta esta balada de Van Halen , extraída de su LP "Balance" (1995).

Animal caliente

Esta vez es una balada de Barricada de su LP "Rojo" (1988), desgranada por la contundente voz de Enrique Villarreal ("El Drogas"), que fue fundador de la banda y cabeza visible durante casi 30 años. Poca gente lo sabe, pero este personaje carismático donde los haya, ha escrito incluso poemas bajo seudónimo y un trabajo de investigación sobre la Guerra Civil que se tradujo en un libro publicado junto al LP "La Tierra está sorda" (2009).

He encontrado este vídeo, donde la canción está casi enteramente entonada por el público, lo que quizás añade aún más intensidad a su letra. Una letra que intuyo habla de relaciones esporádicas, de esos ligues nocturnos de fin de semana, donde no sólo hay donjuanes, sino también féminas que saben desplegar sus armas a la hora de seducir y utilizar al hombre. Y es que la mujer que no haya sido alguna vez un peligroso "animal caliente" nunca ha estado viva.

Stairway to Heaven

"Escalera al cielo", una balada añeja, imprescindible, que todo el mundo ha escuchado alguna vez, quizás porque puede ser considerada la "abuelita" de las baladas del género. Fue compuesta por el grupo británico Led Zeppelin, muy influyente en la música rock de los setenta y se publicó dentro de su cuarto trabajo: "Lez Zeppelin IV" (1971).

De su letra se ha hablado mucho, desde que esconde una conspiración y significados ocultos por la presunta vinculación de uno de sus integrantes con el Iluminismo Científico, hasta que puede escucharse una exaltación al satanismo si reproducimos el LP del revés... Nada de esto está realmente probado, son sólo polémicas y leyendas que han envuelto siempre a esta legendaria banda de rock, que como muchas en aquella década, tuvieron sus incursiones en las drogas, el alcohol y los escándalos sexuales. Lo que sí es cierto es que esta balada es uno de los temas más solicitados y escuchados en las emisoras de radio de todo el mundo y que su partitura sigue siendo la más vendida de la historia de la música rock.

Can´t Stand the Night

Accept es una banda teutona de gran influencia en el heavy de los años 80, gran precursora del trash, sobre todo por sus brutales riffs  y su ritmo rápido y agresivo, liderado por el inconfundible estilo vocal chirriante de su cantante Udo Dirkschneider. La banda forjó un sonido reconocible al instante y tenía fama de tener uno de los más feroces directos de la década. El abandono de su cantante para dedicarse a su carrera en solitario les hizo perder parte de su identidad, pero hoy día siguen en la brecha, con otro cantante diferente, realizando tours por todo el mundo para promocionar su regreso.

Esta balada se encuentra en su álbum "Breaker" (1981).

Prisioner of your eyes

Una de las bandas británicas por excelencia de rock duro: Judas Priest, también nos deleitó con alguna balada, aunque encontraremos diferentes estilos en su andadura. De momento para abrir boca os dejo una de su  LP "Screaming For Vengeance" (1982).
